Software Engineer: Part-Time, Telecommute
BlueKey is a successful web development firm with offices in Charleston, SC and Harrisonburg, VA. Established in 2000, BlueKey provides Internet solutions that help businesses, organizations, and governments grow through enhanced communications, expanded sales and services, and simplified operations. We specialize in custom web application development, e-commerce & content management systems, strategic Internet marketing, and web site design.
We currently have an opening for a part-time Software Engineer. We are seeking a long-term commitment of 20 hours per week, with the option for increased hours or future full-time work based on your availability. As a Software Engineer at BlueKey, you will work with a talented group of developers and designers, building exciting custom applications from the ground up. The applications often have national exposure, many promoted by aggressive advertising campaigns.
This position requires extensive knowledge and experience in web application development. Most importantly, it requires passion for web technologies, the continual desire to learn, and the ability to work in a small team environment.
Specifically, the position requires the following:
- You must be a passionate PHP developer.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience and expert competency with all of the following:
- PHP 4 and 5
- Object Oriented Programming
- MySQL
- JavaScript
- Linux & Apache
- Competency with the following:
- AJAX
- YUI
- CSS
- System administration & DBA tasks as they apply to software development, including cron, application & database benchmarking, and query optimization
- XML, SOAP, REST, HTTP, SFTP
- cURL, PEAR, PDFlib, encryption methods
- Working knowledge of load balancing and working with server clusters to deploy PHP applications
- Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Ability to debug and figure out other's PHP4 and 5 code
- Located in the United States, preferably Eastern time zone
- Zend Certification preferred
Pay is hourly, and totally commensurate with experience, skill, and efficiency.
